between keyboards, guitars a trumpet at one point. The crowd were already warming to the group when they encouraged them to move forward, which everyone dutifully did. Next after a brief explanation of their British-Italian roots they split the crowd, asking one half to repeat the chorus in Italian and the other half in English. The crowd only too willing to accept this challenge. Chai’s main man Sean gave the lads the 10 minute wind up… which they stretched in to about 15. I was so impressed with them that I’ve got a ticket
I don't have the rights to play any Chai on my website so instead why not listen to Drum Machines Can't Dance while you read. If you like please click on Home to check out more of my tunes.
Shutter goes up and we’re in. First stop the merch stall. I was after a Benny Hat, unfortunately they didn’t have any. I had planned to get a T-Shirt while in London so opted for a keyring instead. Next stop the bar for a pint then off to get a picture of the stage. I get in a good position to get the whole stage in, get ready to click, pause, something not right here, he thinks… Kana’s guitar, Kana’s keyboard, Mana’s Keyboard, assortment of other keyboards I don’t recognise. Yuna’s Drumkit. No P Bass, Yuuki’s keyboard also notably absent. I take a couple of pics for the blog and find a seat by the speaker stack.

Fortunately, no time to dwell on what’s going to happen. Ophelia Lies bound on to the stage. In my last blog I explained my theory that it’s risky to have a support band that could up-stage you, I said that Superorganism had broken that rule but Chai get it right by having a support band that weren’t very good. Well they must have forgotten the rule as Ophelia lies were fantastic. Perfect distraction to the evening. The two Lads, Eugenio and Thomas showed their musical talents as they moved
CHAI - Nice N Sleazy, Glasgow, 26th October 2019
*I now have a sticker, cheers Eugeino
The wait goes on, there’s a wee group of us on the stairs so we start chatting. Found out the Japanese couple at the front went to Edinburgh Uni. They only came because they heard there was a Japanese band playing, they hadn’t heard of Chai. Once I got my head round that I found out that the also bearded long haired chap beside me had came along because he had seen Chai while in holiday in Barcelona, naturally fell in love with them. Oh, and he told me he had forgotten they were playing till his phone sent a reminder. Once I got my head round that I found out that the guy behind me didn’t even seem aware Chai were playing let alone who they were, he was a friend of Ophelia Lies. This isn’t even the weird part of the night.
for the Brig Below in Leith on the 22nd November. I Insta an Instagram Photo of them while I nipped outside. There was no reception in Sleazy’s so I didn’t get their offer of some stickers till I was on my way back to the bus. You owe me some stickers guys lol.

The bearded chap comes over and sits next to me. “I just heard at the bar that one of them is Ill” I turned and said It’s Yuuki, I don’t remember if he questioned my revelation or not? I asked if they are still playing and he said yep. The stage was set up so I guessed they must be.
